The work tells the story of the Brazilian Navy's polar ship, Almirante Maximiano, affectionately called Tio Max. Produced following the University of Brasília's mission to Antarctica, the book, as described in its introduction, is primarily a paradidactic material for scientific dissemination. It centers on the captain’s logs, narratives, and memories of Commander Sérgio Ricardo Segóvia Barbosa, who commanded Uncle Max from its acquisition by the Brazilian Navy until 2011. The story, narrated by historian and photographer João Paulo Barbosa, with elements of adventure, saga, and overcoming, blends fictional and historical elements in a magical and fantastic way. It takes us on an exceptional journey to Antarctica, summarizing the key events of all the trips made by Uncle Max to the frozen continent, under the leadership of Commander Segóvia. At the end of the text, a set of pedagogical projects allows and guides the exploration of the book’s content in classrooms, for teachers and students at various levels of Basic Education.
